MUSCAT: In order to lend more bite to its pace attack, Oman Cricket has roped in Avishkar Salvi, former Indian fast bowler, as its fast bowling coach for the forthcoming assignments.
Salvi, right arm pace bowler who played four ODIs for India in 2003, is now working with the Oman National Team as expert coach on fast bowling. His immediate assignment is five-nation T20 home series including Ireland, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Nepal and host Oman.
“Oman Cricket felt the need for an expert coach for its pace bowlers and that is precisely why we have hired Avishkar Salvi. I am sure our boys will have a lot to learn from him. We have quality fast bowlers in our ranks and are looking forward to even better performances from them in the future assignments,” said Madhu Jesrani, Secretary, Oman Cricket.
Salvi, who represented Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League, will be keeping a close eye on the strengths and weaknesses of Oman pacers during the home series and work on their technical flaws, if any, before the squad travels to UAE to take part in the 14-team ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier.
The former Indian fast bowler made his international debut in 2003 appearing in an ODI against Bangladesh and returned with impressive figures of 7-1-15-2. His unflinching focus on the basics and maintaining tight discipline in his bowling is expected to help Oman fast bowlers in the long run.
